The Local Area:
Les Coches is an interesting little village with all the amenities you could wish for in a ski resort. It has a small supermarket which is well-stocked so you can pick up anything you may have overlooked in your pre-holiday packing frenzy! The village also boasts a couple of bars and restaurants, ideal for that well-earned après-ski! The village of Montchavin which you can access on skis or by a very short ride on a shuttle bus offers further options for bars, restaurants and shops. It’s also home to the Espace Paradisio where you can have a swim or try out the sauna, Turkish bath or massage options. Montchavin also has a cinema and a Night Club!
Paradiski Piste Map – take a sneaky peak at the piste map, get ahead and plan some routes now! Les Coches is superbly placed to access both the La Plagne Area and Les Arcs. A quick ride up the mountain on the Plan Bois chair followed by a cruise down a blue run brings you to the Vanoise Express, the fabulous double-decker cable car which takes you across the valley to Les Arcs. If you fancy a ski in La Plagne instead just make your way up a little higher by taking a trip on the Bijolin lift and enjoy!
Ski Apps – Download the Paradiski YUGE app for iphones or Androids which will give you access to all sorts of resort specific information including weather forecasts, details of lift opening and closing times and fun itineraries to follow.
Ski Tracks is another great App. You can download a version for iphones or androids for a small charge or download a “lite” version for free. Sit down after a long day on the mountain, glass of wine in hand and compare stats. The Ski Tracks App will show you the distance you’ve travelled, your average and top speeds and the numbers of runs completed.
Our favourite Restaurants
La Poya – in les Coches, at the bottom of the piste Mont Blanc. One of our favourites, high quality Savoyarde meals served in a cosy and welcoming restaurant.
La Taverne du Monchu – in Les Coches, lots of fun with funky décor and artwork on the walls. Good food at fair prices. The food is simple and tasty, the menu includes local specialities such as Raclette and Fondues. If you have any room for pudding the profiteroles are good!
Le Sauget (Chez Pat) – located between Montchavin and the Pierre Blanche lift. You’ll get a great welcome from owners Pat and Gerard. A lovely roaring fire will keep you warm on the coldest of days. A traditional French menu, we hear the tartiflette is very tasty.
Le Carrolay – you’ll find this restaurant above Les Coches on the “Teppes” run accessed from the top of the Crozats chairlift. Expect a warm welcome and good Plat Du Jour. Reasonably priced and huge portions.
Le Chalet du Friolin – found at the bottom of Bauches chairlift this is a good stop for lunch or a drink before you head home for the day. On a sunny day enjoy stunning views from the huge terrace, if the snow is falling pop inside to chill out on a comfy sofa in front of a log fire. Great ambiance, lovely food and good service.
Chalet de l’Arc – found close to the Marmottes piste, Arc 2000. A great stop for a mountain lunch, portions are generous to satisfy hungry skiers. If you just fancy a drink relax on the terrace and enjoy the lovely mountain views. The bake their own bread and claim to be the highest bakery in the Alps!
Chalet des Verdons Sud – above Champagny, service is efficient and friendly. Food is lovely but not the cheapest! Great ambiance with a welcoming log fire .
