Thirty years of ski holidays, thousands of families, more than 1,500 seasonal staff and countless memories. What an adventure it’s been!

Thirty years is certainly something to celebrate!

When you think about everything that has happened over three decades at Family Ski Company, there must be thousands of stories to tell. There have been adventures, challenges, unexpected twists, injuries, illness, laughter, a few tears and, no doubt, plenty of tales that are best kept for staff get-togethers rather than the company history books!

But behind all those stories is something rather special: a small, family-run company that has continued to evolve, adapt and bring families together in the mountains for 30 years.

Three decades of change

Since Family Ski Company began, the world has changed enormously. We’ve seen the rise of the internet, the introduction of the euro, the global financial crisis, Brexit and the unprecedented challenges of Covid. Through it all, the ski industry has changed, the way families book holidays has changed, and Family Ski itself has grown and evolved.

There have been bigger seasons and smaller ones, new chalets, new resorts, new faces and plenty of familiar ones returning year after year. Through every change, Mike, Ian and Lisa have continued to steer the company forward, remaining committed to what matters most – giving families wonderful ski holidays.

Because the truth is, people don’t necessarily need a Family Ski holiday. They choose one because they want one. They want the reassurance of knowing their children are in capable hands, the pleasure of staying in a welcoming chalet, delicious freshly prepared food and a team who genuinely care about making their holiday special.

And when families keep coming back for 30 years, we must be doing something right!

More than a ski holiday

At Family Ski, we know that a successful family ski holiday is about much more than snow and sunshine. It’s about the little things that make a big difference.

It’s the children heading off happily to ski school, the reassurance of knowing there is a Family Ski helper alongside their ski class, the warm welcome waiting back at the chalet and the chance for parents to enjoy their own time on the mountain, knowing their children are happy and well cared for.

It’s the chalet hosts who go the extra mile, the friendships made over dinner and the memories created both on and off the slopes.

Our aim has always been simple: happy children, relaxed parents and family holidays that everyone can enjoy. After 30 years, that remains at the heart of everything we do.

The other side of the Family Ski family

While we’re incredibly proud of the families who have holidayed with us over the years, there is another part of our story that deserves just as much recognition: our staff.

Over the past 30 years, more than 1,500 seasonal staff have been part of Family Ski Company. For many, a season in the mountains has been far more than just a job. It has been an opportunity to grow in confidence, develop new skills, make lifelong friends and experience adventures they might never otherwise have had.

Working a ski season can be life-changing. It brings new challenges, plenty of responsibility and the chance to discover what you’re capable of. We’re proud to have played a part in so many people’s journeys, and it’s wonderful to see how many have gone on to achieve great things.

We also know that a season doesn’t always go to plan. Life can throw unexpected challenges our way, and sometimes people need a little extra support or an opportunity to find their feet again. We believe that looking after our people matters just as much as looking after our guests.

That’s what being part of a family-run business means to us.

A team that keeps coming back

One of the things we’re particularly proud of is how many of our staff return season after season.

Just as families return to their favourite chalets and resorts, familiar faces come back to work with us, bringing experience, enthusiasm and a shared understanding of what makes a Family Ski holiday special.

Our teams work hard, but they also have fun. They form friendships, support one another and create the welcoming atmosphere that our guests notice as soon as they arrive.

We like to think that the fact so many staff return year after year says something important about the company we have built. We want Family Ski to be a great place to work, as well as a great company to holiday with.

And when our guests tell us how much they appreciate the team looking after them, we know that care and camaraderie are making a real difference.

Thirty years would not have been possible without the people who have been part of the journey.

To the families who have travelled with us once, twice or every season for years: thank you for trusting us with your holidays, recommending us to friends and returning to make more memories with us.

To our current and former staff: thank you for your hard work, your commitment, your humour and all the little things you’ve done to make a guest’s day that bit more special.

And to everyone who has supported Family Ski along the way, thank you for helping us reach this incredible milestone.

A company is only as good as its people, and we feel incredibly lucky to have had so many wonderful people be part of ours.

Here’s to the next 30 years!

Reaching our 30th anniversary is an opportunity to look back with enormous pride, but it’s also a chance to look forward with excitement.

There will undoubtedly be more changes, challenges, adventures and stories to tell. We don’t know exactly what the next 30 years will bring, but we do know what we want to keep doing: welcoming families to the mountains, creating unforgettable holidays and making sure that everyone who becomes part of the Family Ski family feels they belong.

Thirty years is an extraordinary achievement, and everyone who has been part of our journey should feel proud.
